Crafts I & II spent an unseasonably gorgeous day on a field trip that started in Staunton, Virginia and ended in Downtown Harrisonburg where they enjoyed three tours and a local lunch. The glass blowing demo at Sunspots Studios is always a mesmerizing hit. The artists are knowledgeable and friendly, open to answering the many questions that arise. In Downtown Harrisonburg we were led on a walking tour to the Depression Era mural in the Federal Court House followed by the Lucy Simms mural on the Water Street parking deck painted by Bombproof. The tour was led by Jenny Burden of the Arts Council of the Valley. After a lunch in the heart of downtown, we visited the Ice House and watched Hugo Kohl make a ring on the spot! Lastly, we visited the historic house that has been transformed into the Virginia Quilt Museum where we heard tales of soldier ghosts and stories of an eerie presence.
